Synopsis
Ruaridh Mollica impresses as Max, a 25-year-old freelance writer and aspiring novelist, seemingly well on his way to success in London's cultural spheres. He secures a deal for a novel based on interviews with students who make a living as sex workers. However, the "interviews" are based on Max' personal experiences as "Sebastian", who meets men through an escorting platform.
As Max becomes more invested in Sebastian, the lines between the two personas become blurred. Max struggles to understand his own actions, putting himself at risk trying to find answers as well as writing material.
Eventually, Max must decide where he ends and Sebastian begins.
Director Mikko Mäkelä's debut feature A Moment in the Reeds screened at Oslo/Fusion 2018, and we are excited to present his second feature, which premiered at Sundance 2024.
